Hamburg Road Closure Announced
Lancaster, Ohio, June 21 -- Beginning Monday, June 25th, Hamburg Road will be closed for approximately 8 weeks. Fairfield County Engineer Frank W. Anderson said the construction of a new bridge known as Hocking-6 will begin on that date. The Hocking-6 Bridge is located on Hamburg Road just north of the intersection of Mill Road, between 445 Hamburg Road and the entrance to R & M Distributors New and Used Tires at 425 Hamburg Road. Anderson said traffic will be maintained to all homes and businesses, on either side of the bridge, during the construction period.
Fairfield County Bridge Workers will install the new concrete box bridge which is being fabricated by United Precast of Mount Vernon, Ohio. The $38,000 cost of the project will be paid for with local Motor Vehicle money and Bridge, Culvert and Road Levy Funds.
Anderson said it is important to complete construction of the Hocking #6 Bridge this year due to its low 16-Ton weight limit. Hamburg Road is scheduled to be a detour route during an ODOT construction project on B.I.S. Road (SR 793) at Little Brook in 2002. The new bridge will carry the legal Ohio load limit necessary to handle the expected increase in traffic.
