Collins Road to Get New Railroad Grade Crossing
Lancaster, Ohio, August 3 -- The Indiana & Ohio Railroad
grade crossing on Collins Road will get a new full depth rubber surface
according to Fairfield County Engineer, Frank W. Anderson.
On Monday, August 7, 2000, Collins
Road NW (CR 54) will be closed for approximately ten days beginning 7:30 A.M. on
that day. The area of closure will be between West Fair Avenue and U.S. Route
33, (between the Lancaster Corporation Limit and House Number 1250 on Collins
Road NW.) Drivers on U.S. Route 33 will still have access to and from
Lithopolis Road and vice versa.
Anderson said the new surface will be
much smoother than what motorists are accustomed to at that location.
There are more than 7,000 cars a day passing over this crossing. The new
surface will last longer and handle the high traffic and commercial vehicles
better than the traditional tie and asphalt surface.
The project is 85% locally funded by the
Engineer's Motor Vehicle Fund with 15% of the cost coming from Indiana &
Ohio. Annex Railroad Builders, Inc., a sub-contractor of Indiana &
Ohio, will construct the crossing.
