Fairfield County Engineer Frank Anderson Receives State Award

Lancaster, Ohio, May 23 -- Fairfield County Engineer Frank W. Anderson was selected for special recognition at the 122nd Annual Meeting and Convention of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers. Anderson was honored as the recipient of the inaugural OSPE/CECO QBS Award in Cincinnati during an awards luncheon on Saturday, May 20. The award is a joint effort of the OSPE and the CECO or Consulting Engineers Council of Ohio.

Anderson received a similar award from the Franklin County Chapter of the OSPE on February 24, and was submitted for the State honor by the local chapter. The QBS Award, or Quality Based Selection Award recognizes "adherence to the principals and objectives of the QBS process" and Andersons "support of the highest standards of the engineering profession."

Quality based selection is a process defined in Ohio law whereby consulting engineers are hired on the basis of the best qualified for the particular job, over $25,000, rather than the lowest priced. At the county level, consulting engineers are most often hired to design new bridges and road projects. "This is an important process," Anderson said. "The design of projects and the publics demand for the safety and reliability of the finished product, is of vital importance. The quality based selection process ensures this goal is attainable each time. This is a great honor for our Office." Anderson added.

Anderson was nominated for the Franklin County Chapter award by Joe Sullivan of R. D. Zande & Associates, Inc., an engineering firm. Andersons name was submitted for the state award. As the state honoree, Anderson will be Ohios candidate for national recognition during the national convention of the National Society of Professional Engineers in Norfolk, Virginia, in July.
