Pictured below is Rock Mill Bridge on August 2 after it was closed. The bridge was damaged in a hit-skip accident on Tuesday, August 1, shortly after 6:00 P.M. Witnesses told deputies a trash truck was responsible for the damage. The investigation continues.
An oversize truck was northbound on Rock Mill Road toward Lithopolis Road. The truck hit, bent and knocked down an overhead steel beam. It continued on through the bridge and split another wooden beam into two pieces and cracked a third. The damage was so severe that Fairfield County Engineer, Frank Anderson, closed the bridge to traffic until repairs can be made.
Anderson asked that anyone having information about the identity of the truck to please call the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office at 740-653-5223.
