PRESS RELEASE                                                                    (IMMEDIATE RELEASE)

FAIRFIELD COUNTY ENGINEERS OFFICE OPEN HOUSE

SEPTEMBER 25, 2008            3:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M.

The Fairfield County Engineers Office Facility located at 3026 West Fair Avenue in Lancaster, Ohio will be holding an open house from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the combined administrative-maintenance facility on Thursday, September 25th.  This marks the five-year anniversary at this new facility.  It seemed like a good idea to County Engineer, Frank W. Anderson, to hold this second open house at the facility since when the initial one was held at the time of opening, few improvements had been made.

Now, the public can see some of the many features in place that are used on a daily basis to help make the County Engineers operation run more efficiently.  Mr. Anderson notes there are clear improvements upon the plan room, mailroom, technician room, mechanics area, sign shop area, maintenance buildings, stockpiling storage area, etc.  In addition, there are now added gas pumping stations.  Brine application units have been added for use in pre-treating some of the county roads in the winter, such as CR 33-A, which was abandoned to the county by ODOT.

Hopefully, citizens will be able to stop by the facility sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Thursday to learn a little more able the County Engineers Office.  We cordially invite everyone to attend!

PRESS RELEASE                                                                (IMMEDIATE RELEASE)

Fairfield County Engineer, Frank W. Anderson would like to inform the public that Ohio Revised Code 5589.33 states, no person shall place within the limits of the right-of-way or affix any sign, poster, or advertisement to any tree or utility pole within the right-of-way of any public highway outside of municipal corporations.  An additional code further states that violations of this section of the code are considered a minor misdemeanor.  This informational release is the result of the increasing numbers of both political and private signage being placed along roads.  To avoid sight obstructions and additional distractions, the public road rights-of-way are to be utilized for highway purposes and only traffic control signage is allowed.  Another issue is that sign materials hidden in the grass can damage mowing equipment as well as injure employees.  This was evident last summer when an employee was mowing and hit a signpost hidden in the grass.  Surgery was needed to remove a piece of the signpost from his arm.  The Engineers Office will continue to remove these types of obstructions.

He would also like to remind the public of the requirement of a free permit from the Engineers Office for any proposed alteration or work being performed within a County Road rights-of-way.  Anything placed within the rights-of-way is subject to removal.  This would include, but not limited to, signs, rocks, trees, bushes, plantings of any type, non-conforming mailboxes, fence structures, etc.

Any questions may be addressed by calling the Engineers Office at 740-687-7050.
